TNT tracking: consignment number, statuses and delivery

8 min read

Peek is an independent tracker, not TNT. It shows what TNT’s own tracking publishes.

TNT delivers parcels, documents and freight for people and businesses across the world, with its own road network across Europe. tnt.com now presents FedEx Express and TNT as "coming together", and its US and Canadian pages say TNT is operating as FedEx there. A TNT consignment has a 9-digit number, also called the shipment or waybill number. Track it on tnt.com's Track & Trace, by that number or by the sender's reference. A parcel sent within Italy belongs to TNT Italy instead.

TNT tracking number: what it looks like and where to find it

What you haveWhat it isInvented example
9 digitsTNT's consignment number, the one tnt.com tracksNone: TNT reuses these numbers
Two letters and 8 digitsA domestic waybill from Italy: see TNT ItalyNA00000000
Letters and digits chosen by the senderThe customer reference, an optional reference the sender gave when booking–

The number is in the shipping confirmation email, or on the collection manifest under the barcode. Senders also find it on TNT's invoice, on the left, about 3 cm below their customer number. If you're receiving the parcel, ask the shop or the sender for it. tnt.com tracks several numbers at once, separated by commas. See also how to find a tracking number.

TNT handles over two million shipments a month, so its 8- and 9-digit numbers come back every three or four weeks. If tnt.com lists several shipments under your number, pick yours by date, origin and destination.

TNT delivery: missed deliveries, redelivery and the depot

TNT delivers to the recipient's address, to you or to someone who appears to be allowed to accept it for you. Its FAQ says it can't deliver to PO boxes and needs a full street address; its conditions allow PO boxes for certain international destinations, if the sender gives TNT your phone number.

Missed delivery. The driver leaves a "We Missed You" card. TNT's FAQ says to use it with the Re-delivery Service to book another delivery or a pickup at the depot. No card, or no attempt yet? Contact TNT with the shipment number, the delivery address and the day you want. Redeliveries happen Monday to Friday only.

What TNT's conditions allow. When a signature was required at a home address and the first attempt fails, TNT may try again, hold the parcel until you or the sender give instructions, or deliver it to a place it chooses. A parcel for a business address still not delivered after three attempts, or five business days after the first, counts as undeliverable. TNT then tries to reach the sender to arrange a return; if it can't within five business days, it may return the parcel, store it or dispose of it.

Changing the delivery. In some places, TNT follows the recipient's instructions for parcels from a business to a consumer: a later delivery, a neighbour, another address in the same country, leaving it without a signature, or a pickup point. Another change of address counts as a new shipment, and new charges may apply.

TNT customs: duties and taxes on international parcels

Where local law allows, TNT clears international shipments through customs itself. It may pay duties and taxes for whoever owes them and charge a clearance fee for that, which varies by country. It can also ask for payment before it releases the parcel to you. The sender is ultimately responsible: if you refuse to pay, TNT may ask the sender, and if the sender doesn't pay either, the parcel may go back.

For parcels bought from outside the EU and sent into the EU, a flat €3 customs duty per item type has applied since 1 July 2026 to consignments worth up to €150. From 1 November 2026, a €2 EU handling fee will apply too. The details, and the rules in other countries, are in the customs guide.

TNT parcel not showing, late, lost or damaged

Not showing. tnt.com says a new shipment can take up to an hour to appear in its system, and stays there for about 90 days. More in tracking that isn't updating.

Delivered but not there. Check on Track & Trace who signed, then contact TNT. TNT's shipping tools, such as myTNT, give the signature image as proof of delivery. See delivered but not received.

Lost or damaged. TNT's conditions give 21 days to notify a claim: from delivery for damage or delay, from the expected delivery date for loss or non-delivery. Write any damage on the delivery receipt: taking the parcel without a note is evidence it arrived in good condition. For a damaged item, TNT's FAQ says the claimant must be the person who booked the shipment: if a shop sent it, the shop claims. Keep the contents and all the packaging for TNT to inspect. TNT aims to settle a claim within three weeks of the completed claim form. See damaged parcel and lost parcel.

Scam messages. TNT says it offers no escrow services, and a consignment number alone doesn't prove TNT has the goods. Don't pay in advance through a money transfer service; forward fake TNT emails to [email protected]. More in delivery scam texts.

Tracking a TNT parcel with Peek

Paste the 9-digit number. When its check digit is right, Peek asks TNT, and XPO too when the number also fits XPO's check, then shows "TNT has this parcel." when TNT knows it. If the check digit doesn't fit, paste it all the same: Peek follows more than 3,500 carriers. If TNT doesn't come up, pick it with "Change", or "Change carrier" on the parcel. tnt.com tracking links aren't read: paste the number itself.

Peek reads tnt.com's tracking in English, so the wordings above stay English in every language. It shows the status, the history with the city and country of each scan, the destination country and the expected delivery date while TNT gives one. The sender's reference and the signature stay on tnt.com. Since numbers get reused, Peek follows the shipment with the newest scan: check that its route is yours. Peek also follows TNT France's 16-digit national numbers, on TNT France's own tracking and in French; many carriers share that length, so you may have to pick TNT. Peek checks every 10 minutes, every 2 once the parcel is out for delivery, and can notify you with "All tracking updates", "Important only" or "Delivery day only". It can't contact TNT or the sender for you.
