DPD tracking in Germany: what statuses mean and what to do

6 min read

Peek is an independent tracker, not DPD Germany. It shows what DPD Germany’s own tracking publishes.

DPD in Germany is DPD Deutschland GmbH, a parcel carrier in the Geopost network, with over 10,300 Pickup parcelshops. Track a parcel on DPD's tracking page with its 14-digit parcel number, adding your postcode for the details, or paste the number in the box above. It's in the shop's shipping confirmation and in DPD's email or SMS.

DPD tracking number: where to find it

The 14-digit number is in the shop's and DPD's messages and under the QR code on DPD's missed-delivery card. A reference number won't track.

Number (invented)What it is
00001234567890The 14-digit parcel number DPD's tracking takes.
00001234567890WThe same plus the check character DPD prints after it on labels and cards.

Not found? DPD names three reasons: a wrong number, one over 180 days old (archived) or a parcel not yet handed over. Fourteen digits also fit DPD Switzerland, DPD France, DPD UK, SEUR and BRT, so check which carrier the shop's email names.

What DPD's tracking statuses mean

DPD's English wordings, in order. Its German pages word steps differently (Auftragsdaten übermittelt is label created), and its postcode page is in German even from an English link.

DPD saysWhat it means for you
Order information has been transmitted to DPD.Label created: DPD doesn't have the parcel yet.
Parcel handed to DPDDPD has it.
In transit., Your parcel is on its wayTravelling through DPD's network.
At parcel delivery centre. At the depot that delivers it.
Out for delivery. With the driver today.
Unsuccessful delivery attemptThe driver missed you.
Delivered by driver to DPD Pickup parcelshop/ station.Ready for pickup.
Picked up from Pickup parcelshop by consignee.Picked up by you.
Delivered., Parcel has been left in: mail boxDelivered; the second says where.
At parcel delivery centre. (Return to sender)Going back to the sender.

"Consignor" is the sender and "consignee" you: Parcel handed to Pickup parcelshop by consignor. is the sender's drop-off. Pickup ordered for: … is DPD collecting from the sender, not you. If the first status doesn't change, ask the sender. Stuck at the depot? DPD's FAQ on At the parcel distribution center says to check again the next business day, then ask the sender if several business days pass unchanged.

DPD delivery times, Pickup parcelshops and missed deliveries

Delivery window. If the sender gave DPD your email or mobile number, Predict sends you a two-hour window on the day; live tracking narrows it to about 30 minutes. Predict skips the islands.

Changes. In the DPD app, myDPD or DPD's tracking with your postcode, send the parcel to a neighbour or a Pickup parcelshop, allow a safe place ("Drop-off okay") or choose another day, until the depot's delivery scan. With a drop-off okay, DPD photographs the parcel and the risk of loss or damage passes to you.

Missed delivery. DPD tries again the same or next working day, then takes the parcel to the nearest Pickup parcelshop. Its terms also allow a neighbour within 50 metres or a Pickup station, and DPD tells you where. The card in your letterbox has a QR code for redirecting it.

Picking it up. Wait for DPD's ready message, then bring photo ID. Someone else needs your signed power of attorney and their own ID. DPD's FAQ says a parcelshop keeps a parcel 7 calendar days and a Pickup station 3; its terms say 7 working days after a missed delivery, then it goes back to the sender.

DPD parcel not delivered, late or damaged

The sender holds the contract, so refunds, missing parcels and damage go through the sender; DPD handles status and delivery changes.

No update for days. Ask the sender, who can request an official investigation. See why tracking stops updating.

Delivered but not there. Ask neighbours, look around the door, garage, letterbox and bins, check whether it went to a parcelshop, then turn to the sender and finally DPD's form. More in delivered but not received.

Damaged. Photograph the box and the goods and tell the sender at once. German law sets the deadlines: visible damage noted at delivery, hidden damage in writing within 7 days (Commercial Code, § 438). Unresolved loss or damage disputes can go to the Bundesnetzagentur's Schlichtungsstelle Post.

Customs. Parcels from outside the EU, such as the UK, can carry duty, import VAT and a clearance fee, paid by you unless the sender paid. DPD's payment email from [email protected] is genuine. See customs.

Tracking a DPD Germany parcel with Peek

Peek takes DPD's 14-digit number, with or without its check character, and asks the likely carriers. You see "DPD Germany has this parcel" only while DPD places the parcel in Germany. If you don't, press "Change" and pick DPD Germany, as you must for 14-digit numbers starting 10 or 1550, which Peek takes for DPD France or DPD UK. Links from tracking.dpd.de and my.dpd.de work too.

An optional "Delivery postcode" (5 digits) goes to DPD and, when needed, to tracking services. Without it, Peek reads DPD's German app: scans with their town, weight, size, the expected day or window and, while the parcel waits, the Pickup parcelshop or station's name and address. With it, Peek reads DPD's verified tracking instead: the sender's name, but no size or Pickup address. If DPD refuses the postcode, only a short summary is left, with no warning.

Peek checks every 10 minutes, every 2 once out for delivery, maps each scan and can notify you. Statuses stay in DPD's English; a scan naming who received the parcel reads "Delivery update". Your name, address and proof of delivery are dropped. DPD's times carry no time zone, so German depots' scans read as German time; scans abroad may be missing. Peek stops reading DPD Germany once DPD places the parcel in another country and follows no other carrier.

Questions about DPD tracking

Where is my DPD driver?

With your postcode entered, DPD's live tracking shows the van on a map on the delivery day: the vehicle, not the driver. If it hasn't moved for several hours, DPD asks you to get in touch.

How long does DPD take to deliver in Germany?

Usually 1 to 2 working days after handover, says DPD. Its terms call these standard times, not fixed dates.

Is DPD working on Saturday?

Saturday delivery is a service the sender books: DPD's terms tie it to DPD 12:00, an express service within Germany.

Where is my DPD Pickup shop?

DPD tells you the shop's name and address when it leaves your parcel there. Its Pickup parcelshop finder lists shops and their opening hours.
