DAO tracking: statuses, daoSHOP and missed deliveries

7 min read

Peek is an independent tracker, not DAO. It shows what DAO’s own tracking publishes.

DAO (Dansk Avis Omdeling) is a Danish carrier that has delivered newspapers since 1921 and brings online shops' parcels to your door at night or to a daoSHOP pickup point. Enter the parcel number on DAO's "Track your parcel" page, in the dao app or paste it in the box above. The number comes from the shop's shipping email or from DAO's own text and email.

Where to find your DAO tracking number

The shop sends the number in its shipping email. When a parcel waits at a daoSHOP, DAO texts and emails you the parcel number and a 5-digit collection code. The dao app adds your parcels as soon as the shipment is created.

DAO says its parcel numbers have 9, 13 or 20 digits (digits below invented):

NumberWhat it is
00057126960000000008The 20-digit parcel number, starting 00057. It's the barcode on the label, and the one DAO's customer service asks for.
7000000000000A 13-digit number starting with 7.
123456789A 9-digit e-label code: a sender who buys shipping from DAO writes it on the parcel instead of printing a label.

Spaces don't matter. Danish parcels from other carriers look different: PostNord's postal numbers end in DK and its 20-digit numbers start with other prefixes, GLS numbers have 11 or 12 digits and DPD's have 14. If DAO's page can't find it, check the digits, then ask the shop. See how to find your tracking number if nothing arrived.

DAO tracking statuses explained

DAO's tracking shows statuses in English on its English site and in Danish on dao.as. Here is the English wording, in order. A depot or terminal often comes after a colon, as in "Parcel arrived at dao depot: dao Erritsø".

StatusWhat it means for you
Shipment created, awaiting registrationThe shop has made the label. DAO doesn't have the parcel yet.
Handed in at daoSHOPThe sender dropped the parcel at a daoSHOP.
On the way to terminalIt has been collected from that shop.
Parcel has arrived at terminalAt one of DAO's sorting terminals, still on its way.
Sorted at: Erritsø terminalSorted at the terminal named, such as Erritsø or Sjælland.
Parcel arrived at dao depotAt the local depot, for your door.
On the way to daoSHOPHeading to the pickup point.
To be delivered todayOn the next round to homes, usually that night or early morning.
Not delivered - other reasonThe courier couldn't leave it at your address.
Delivery not possible. Redirected to daoSHOPShown at the same moment: it's going to a daoSHOP instead.
Ready for pickupWaiting at the daoSHOP. Your code comes by text and email.
Parcel deliveredLeft at your address, or picked up at the daoSHOP.

Two things catch people out. Parcel has arrived at terminal is a sorting step, not the end of the trip. And a home Parcel delivered usually comes at night, so look in your mailbox or on your door handle in the morning. No return wording has been recorded.

DAO home deliveries, daoSHOP and missed parcels

At home. DAO delivers during the night and early morning, 365 days a year, without a signature; its terms say most often before 7 am. It puts the parcel in your mailbox when it fits, otherwise hangs it on your door in a recycled plastic bag or leaves it near the door, on the doormat for example. There's no receipt: DAO's GPS, time and photo records count as proof.

Why it went to a daoSHOP. The sender may have chosen a daoSHOP. Otherwise DAO redirects a parcel it couldn't leave safely, one over 5 kg or too large for homes (over 55 cm long or 120 cm length plus circumference), or one with an error in the address. In blocks of flats, DAO needs access to the entrance; residents can grant it with DAO's "Grant access" form.

Picking up. Bring the parcel number and the 5-digit collection code from DAO's text or email. Someone else can collect it if you forward them the message. DAO says it has more than 1,500 daoSHOPs; find one by postcode, street or town on dao.as's map, with opening hours. DAO may use a different shop from the one chosen, or sometimes a parcel locker.

How long it waits. DAO's terms give 7 calendar days to pick it up, with a notice and two reminders. After that the parcel goes back to the sender.

DAO publishes no way for you to reschedule or redirect a parcel, and no number of attempts.

DAO parcel missing, late or damaged

The shop holds the contract with DAO, but DAO's contact page also tells recipients what to do.

No update for 48 hours. If the parcel hasn't been scanned in the last 48 hours, DAO asks you to report it missing by email or phone, with a description of the contents. You get an email confirmation, and DAO has up to 10 business days to search for it. See tracking that isn't updating.

Delivered but not there. Check the mailbox, door and spots around it, then contact DAO; missing contents go to [email protected]. See delivered but not received.

Damaged. Report it on DAO's damage form within 5 working days of receiving it, with photos of the outer and inner packaging and the damaged item. DAO's terms cap its liability at the documented value or DKK 2,500 per parcel, whichever is lower. Damage to your property by a courier goes to [email protected].

Not happy with the answer. Contact DAO customer service first; as a consumer you can then complain to the Center for Klageløsning at Nævnenes Hus.

As listed on DAO's contact page on 13 October 2026:

Tracking a DAO parcel with Peek

Peek asks about a 20-digit number starting 0005712696 or 0005715127 at DAO and the other likely carriers, PostNord among them, at once. When only DAO knows it, you see "DAO has this parcel."; when PostNord knows it too, you pick with "Change". A 13-digit or 9-digit number needs "Change" and DAO, or a dao.as tracking link, which works with any number. DAO then answers with the 20-digit number, which is tracked from then on.

DAO's scans carry no time zone, so Peek doesn't show DAO's own scan list. It takes the dated history from universal tracking services, asks DAO again every 6 hours and, if no service answers, shows DAO's current status, dated when it was seen. It can show the daoSHOP the parcel goes to or waits at. Statuses keep DAO's English wording, except Ready for pickup, shown in Peek's own words. You can be notified when the status changes.

For a parcel sent abroad, the partner's tracking number shows, and when DAO's link names a carrier in Peek's list, the parcel can be followed there. DAO gives no expected arrival day and no weight. The masked names, your address and postcode, and the shop's address, hours and map position are left out. Peek can't contact DAO for you.

Questions about DAO tracking

What does "Parcel has arrived at terminal" mean?

The parcel has reached one of DAO's sorting terminals and is still on its way.

How long does DAO take to deliver?

For daoSHOP parcels, DAO says they arrive within 2 to 4 days, seven days a week. Home parcels come at night or in the early morning, 365 days a year.

Is there a DAO tracking app?

Yes, the dao app, for iPhone and Android. It adds parcels sent to you automatically and shows the parcel number and pickup code.

Is a text from DAO asking for payment real?

No. DAO says it doesn't send links asking you to pay or transfer money; check the parcel in the dao app or on dao.as instead.
