Mainfreight tracking: consignment numbers and statuses
Mainfreight moves freight by road, air and sea. Peek's catalog lists it for New Zealand (its home), Australia and the United States; its tracker also covers road freight in Europe and container moves. To track freight or a large item coming to you with Mainfreight, paste the consignment number from whoever booked it in the box above. Mainfreight's own tracker is on www.mainfreight.com.
Mainfreight tracking number: what it looks like
With invented digits:
| Number (invented) | What it is |
|---|---|
00000000000 | 11 digits: a road consignment in New Zealand, Australia or the United States, the one shape Peek's catalog gives Mainfreight. |
| Letters and digits | A job number, a house bill or the sender's own reference. Peek asks Mainfreight with 4 to 40 letters and digits once you pick it. |
| A master bill | An air waybill's 11 digits or an ocean master bill of lading: Peek finds the air or ocean job, if only one job carries it. |
Peek's catalog also knows Mainfreight as Mainfreight Group, Mainfreight Transport and Mainfreight Air & Ocean.
Where to find it. In the shipping email or on your order page; for freight between businesses, ask the sender. See how to find your tracking number.
Other carriers with 11 digits. Eleven digits also fit GLS Germany, GLS France, DHL eCommerce Poland, PostLogistics and others. If your email names one of them, track it there. More in tracking number formats.

Other steps. A container's moves between sites, such as Picked Up (Site Movement), show "In transit", and Final Delivery (Empty to Customer) "Delivered". On European road freight, Order received shows "Label created" and Out for delivery "Out for delivery". With no step to go by, Peek uses the tracker's overall status, such as Created or Final Delivery.
Peek's code knows no Mainfreight wording for a missed delivery, a problem or a return. Other steps go by Peek's rules for every carrier, or show as written without changing the status. More in tracking statuses explained.
How Mainfreight delivers
Peek couldn't read Mainfreight's website, so this page gives no delivery times, appointments, attempts or rules for collecting freight from a depot. Ask whoever booked the freight how and when it comes to your door.
Peek's code hands Mainfreight shipments to no other carrier for delivery. The tracker can give an expected delivery day for air and ocean jobs and European road freight, and Peek shows it until delivery. It gives Peek no proof of delivery and no name of whoever took the goods.
Customs. For goods coming into New Zealand, NZ Customs says:
- Goods bought from overseas websites for NZ$1000 or less pay no duty, and the overseas seller collects the GST, unless they're part of a larger consignment worth more than $1000. Tobacco and alcohol pay duty and GST whatever the value.
- GST is 15% of the value plus any duty, freight and insurance. A Customs and MPI Goods Levy applies to all imports unless exempt; your broker or freight forwarder pays it and may pass it on to you.
- Shipments worth NZ$1000 or more need a Customs Number, and Customs can't release goods until the charges are paid.
Elsewhere, see parcels held at customs, and ask whoever booked Mainfreight who pays the charges.
Mainfreight freight late, stuck, damaged or lost
Nothing yet. A shipment you've filed under Mainfreight that its tracker doesn't list yet shows "Waiting for the carrier" while Peek keeps asking. Pasted 11 digits that no carrier has answered for show "No tracking history yet". Check the digits, and ask the sender whether Mainfreight has picked the freight up.
Not moving. After four days without a new step, a shipment showing "Label created", "Received by carrier" or "In transit" gets a flag ("No tracking update for four days"). Ask the shop or the sender why. See tracking that isn't updating.
Damaged, short or lost. Tell the shop or the sender first: they booked the freight. In New Zealand and Australia, Mainfreight's terms and local law set the claim rules. For freight a trucking company carries between US states, federal law says:
- The carrier is liable for the actual loss or injury to the freight; its liability can be limited to a value the shipper declared, or agreed in writing with the carrier. It can't give less than 9 months to file a claim, or less than 2 years to go to court from the day it turns down any part of the claim in writing.
- A claim is a written request that identifies the shipment, holds the carrier liable and asks for a specified or determinable amount. A note of damage or shortage on the delivery receipt isn't a claim on its own. The carrier may ask for the bill of lading, proof of the freight charges and the invoice.
- The carrier acknowledges a claim in writing within 30 days, and pays, declines or makes a firm offer in writing within 120 days; failing that, it writes with the claim's status then and every 60 days after.
If tracking says Delivered and nothing came, see delivered but not received. More in damaged parcels and lost parcels.
Mainfreight customer service and contact
As of 1 November 2026, Peek couldn't read Mainfreight's website, so this page lists no phone number, email or branch: Peek gives only contacts read on a carrier's own pages.
Ask whoever booked the freight first: the shop or supplier for an order, the sending business otherwise. They hold the booking and can take it up with Mainfreight.
Track a Mainfreight consignment with Peek
From New Zealand, Australia or the United States, Peek asks Mainfreight first about 11 digits while you add them ("Checking tracking services…") and names Mainfreight when its tracker has the shipment. From other countries, it doesn't ask Mainfreight while you add them: pick it as below.
Any other number doesn't tell Peek it's Mainfreight. Paste it all the same: Peek follows more than 3,500 carriers. Then press "Change" and pick Mainfreight: for 11 digits it's under "Fits this number"; otherwise, search for it by name. On a shipment you've already added, use "Change carrier". A link to Mainfreight's tracker with the number in it names Mainfreight at once ("Detected carrier").
Peek needs no account or postcode. When Mainfreight's search doesn't find 11 digits, Peek tries its New Zealand, Australian and American services at once; if more than one knows the number, Peek can't tell which shipment is yours. For a house bill, a master bill or the sender's reference, Peek shows the number Mainfreight answers under as "Mainfreight tracks this as".
Peek shows the status, each step in Mainfreight's wording with its place, and the weight in kilograms when the tracker gives it. It leaves out branch contacts, postcodes, the sender's reference and documents. "Open the Mainfreight website" opens the number on Mainfreight's tracker. When that tracker can't be reached or can't read the shipment, Peek asks tracking services and shows their history, in their own words.
Road steps that name a New Zealand, Australian or US time zone (NZDT, AEST, PST and the like) give their exact time. Others, such as air and ocean milestones, have no zone: Peek reads them on the clock of the step's place, the steps around it or the destination, else New Zealand's, so now and then one can be off.
Peek checks every 10 minutes, or every 2 minutes once the shipment is out for delivery. After two days without news (12 hours while the shipment still shows "Label created" or "Received by carrier"), Peek checks hourly. It can notify you of "Every scan", "Important steps" or "Delivery only". Peek can't contact Mainfreight for you, book a delivery or file a claim.
