Magyar Posta tracking: Hungarian statuses in English
Magyar Posta (Hungarian Post) is Hungary's national postal service, and MPL is the name on its parcels, PostaPont pickup points and lockers. Track a parcel free on posta.hu's "Nyomkövetés" page or in the Magyar Posta app, or paste the number in the box above. The number comes from the shop's shipping email or from Magyar Posta's own email or SMS when the parcel arrives.
Magyar Posta tracking number
The shapes posta.hu's tracker lists (digits invented):
| Number | What it is |
|---|---|
PB00012345670 | A domestic MPL parcel: P, a letter and 11 more characters, 13 in all. On a longer barcode, enter the first 13 characters. |
CP123456785HU | An international parcel (Europe+ or EMS): two letters, 9 digits, HU. |
RR123456785HU | An international registered letter. Domestic registered letters start RL and need 16 characters. |
JJH30AAAAAPL00000000 | MPL Europe Standard: 20 characters starting JJH, a DHL-style ID. |
Magyar Posta's email shows the identifier; tapping it opens tracking in the app.
A number a foreign shop gives you is often not a postal identifier at all: it comes from the sender's own system and never appears on posta.hu. Items from abroad also often show up only once they've arrived in Hungary, so "Invalid item identifier" can mean not posted yet, not arrived yet or a typo. Ask the shop for the postal number, and see tracking number formats.
A P + letter + 11 digits number also fits the shape of La Poste's numbers (two characters and 11 digits), so a French parcel can look like a Hungarian one.
Magyar Posta tracking statuses in English
posta.hu's tracker opens in Hungarian; the flags in the top right corner switch it to English or German. Peek shows the Hungarian wording, listed here in the order a parcel meets it:
| Magyar Posta's status | What it means for you |
|---|---|
A küldeményt a feladó előrejelezte, az átadást követően megkezdjük a feldolgozást | Label created: the sender announced it; processing starts once it's handed over. |
A küldeményt a feladótól átvettük | Received from the sender. |
A küldemény feldolgozás alatt | Being processed. |
A bejövő küldemény átvétele a kicserélőben | A parcel from abroad has reached Hungary's exchange office. |
Online fizetés elérhető | Customs duties and fees can be paid online; it waits for payment. |
Vámkezelés vége | Customs clearance finished. |
A küldemény továbbítása kézbesítésre | Sent on to your delivery office. |
A küldemény a kézbesítőnél van | Out for delivery: the courier has it. |
Sikertelen kézbesítés | Delivery attempt failed. |
A küldemény postán átvehető (értesítőn szereplő dátumtól) | Ready for pickup at the post office from the date on your notice. |
Sikeresen kézbesítve | Delivered. |
A küldemény nem kézbesíthető (nem kereste) | Not collected in time: on its way back to the sender. |
Küldemény előkészítése nemzetközi szállításra (preparing item for international transport) is an outgoing parcel being made ready to leave Hungary. A vámkezeléshez szükséges információk bekérése (ügyfélre vár) means customs needs information from you and is waiting. A küldemény PostaPonton 14:00 után átvehető announces when a PostaPont can hand the parcel over: it isn't there yet. Feladónak visszakézbesítve means it was delivered back to the sender.
Other A küldemény nem kézbesíthető (…) endings give the reason, such as átvételt megtagadta (refused) or ismeretlen címzett (unknown recipient).
Delivery, PostaPont and parcel lockers
Messages. Magyar Posta emails you when a parcel is posted to you, then emails or texts when it arrives: ready at a post office, PostaPont or locker, or with the courier and when to expect it. A reminder follows when 2 days of pickup time are left.
Changing delivery. The MÓDOSÍTÁS (change) button in the email, or "Kiszállítás módosítása" in the app, moves the time or address; some changes cost a fee. Once the message before the second attempt has gone out, nothing more can be changed.
Missed delivery. An MPL Business Parcel gets two home attempts. After the first, the courier phones to agree the second, or you can ask to pick it up instead. If no one is in, Magyar Posta leaves a notice (értesítő) or sends an SMS or email and holds the parcel. Bring photo ID to pick up.
How long it waits. At a post office or PostaPont, domestic parcels wait 5 or 10 working days (the sender picks), items from abroad 15.
Parcel lockers. MPL Csomagautomata lockers are usually open 0-24. You get a 6-digit code by email and SMS: choose "CSOMAGOM ÉRKEZETT" on the screen and enter it. You have 2 working days; then the parcel moves to a nearby post office, where it waits 0, 5 or 10 working days, as the sender chose.
PostaPonts. Nearly 3,000 pickup points: post offices, MPL lockers, MOL petrol stations and COOP shops. The Postakereső finder on posta.hu and in the app shows the nearest.
Parcel from abroad, customs and problems
Customs. Magyar Posta clears items from outside the EU. Up to €150 for private recipients, it usually does this automatically: 27% VAT unless paid at checkout through IOSS, €3 duty per goods category, plus its own fee. Above €150 you send a clearance mandate. Pay online within 48 hours of the SMS or email, or on delivery. See customs and the fees at posta.hu/vam.
No update. Customer service can tell you from the number whether the item has reached Magyar Posta. See tracking not updating.
Damaged. Note visible damage on the delivery document at once (for a locker, call the number on it). Hidden damage: report it within 3 working days at a post office, with all the packaging.
Lost. The sender, usually the shop, claims, unless the parcel was delivered to you or the claim was assigned to you. A domestic claim opens on the 15th day after posting; claims close after six months. Magyar Posta answers within 30 days. If a complaint's answer doesn't satisfy you, you can turn to the NMHH (Hungary's communications authority) within 30 days.

Tracking Magyar Posta parcels with Peek
Peek can't ask Magyar Posta whether it knows a number. A domestic P… number is named Magyar Posta only if a tracking service names it; if it's 11 digits after P and a letter, La Poste is asked too. Otherwise pick Magyar Posta with "Change", or paste a posta.hu tracking link with searchvalue=, which names it straight away. Peek doesn't recognise an MPL Europe Standard JJH… number. A …HU number is tracked as a postal item and reaches Magyar Posta only through "Change" or such a link.
The first lookup opens posta.hu in a browser on Peek's server to pass its captcha, so it isn't instant; later checks read the number from Magyar Posta's app list. If the captcha is refused, Peek waits 10 minutes and tracking services fill in, though their history can lag. Peek shows the status, the history with each place, the service and the pickup point (post office, PostaPont or locker), in Magyar Posta's Hungarian. It shows no expected delivery or pickup deadline. It checks every 10 minutes, every 2 minutes once out for delivery, and can notify you on changes. A parcel posted abroad to Hungary stays with the sending post and tracking services.
