Latvijas Pasts tracking: numbers, statuses and lockers

7 min read

Peek is an independent tracker, not Latvijas Pasts. It shows what Latvijas Pasts’s own tracking publishes.

Latvijas Pasts (Latvian Post) is Latvia's state-owned national post, with the country's largest network of parcel lockers. Track an item on mans.pasts.lv/track, which opens in Latvian and has an English switch, or paste the number in the box above. The number comes from the shop's or sender's shipping message, or from the courier's SMS before delivery.

Latvijas Pasts tracking number

An item posted with Latvijas Pasts has a 13-character international postal number: two letters, nine digits, then LV. The first letters tell you the service:

First letters (invented examples)What it is
RR123456785LVRegistered item: you sign when you receive it.
LA123456785LVTraceable item: tracked at each stage, put in your mailbox without a signature.
CA000000005LVParcel: you get an invitation to collect it at the post office.
EE123456785LVExpress Mail Service (EMS).

Simple or Economy items are not registered at any stage, so small "Economy" parcels can't be tracked at all. If you have no number, the item may have been sent this way; see how to find a tracking number.

Where to look: the courier's SMS includes the shipment number, the time it should arrive and a way to redirect the parcel. The parcel locker SMS gives the locker's address, the collection deadline and the code to open it.

Other country letters mean another post: …LT is Lietuvos paštas, …EE is Omniva. An item from abroad keeps its foreign number, and mans.pasts.lv/track takes those too once Latvijas Pasts has the item; foreign scans then show the country instead of a Latvian office.

What Latvijas Pasts tracking statuses mean

The tracker shows each step with its date, time and the Latvian post office. Above the list, a five-step bar runs from Shipment created to Delivered to recipient. Here are the English wordings, in the usual order:

Latvijas Pasts's statusWhat it means for you
Electronic data about shipment receivedThe sender's data has reached Latvijas Pasts. It doesn't have the item yet.
Item received from senderLatvijas Pasts has the item.
Item arrived at office of exchangeAt the international exchange office, in Riga or abroad.
Item sent to the CustomsPresented to customs.
Item returned from CustomsCustoms has released it. Not a return to the sender.
Item arrived at processing facilityAt a sorting centre.
Item handed over for deliveryOut for delivery.
Unsuccessful delivery attemptDelivery failed: see missed deliveries below.
Notification - pick-up invitation printedReady for pickup: the post office has printed an invitation for you to collect it there.
Item arrived at pick-up pointWaiting at a pickup point.
Item deliveredDelivered, also when the destination country's post delivers an item sent abroad.

Item returned from Customs is the one that worries people: it means the item is back from the customs check and moving again, not that it's going back. Item awaiting next planned cycle means it's waiting for the next dispatch at the exchange office.

If the tracker says No information received on the tracking of the postal item. Please, try again!, check the number, or wait: the item may not be scanned yet.

Latvijas Pasts parcel lockers, couriers and missed deliveries

Parcel lockers. When your item reaches a locker you get an SMS with the address, the deadline and a six-digit code. It waits up to seven days, and you get a reminder before the time runs out. After that the courier takes it to the sorting centre and a paper invitation comes to your address asking you to arrange redelivery; it's kept for up to 30 days, then goes back to the sender. If the code never came, ask the sender to contact Latvijas Pasts: it corrects the phone number only at the sender's request.

Courier to your door. Latvijas Pasts says it attempts delivery up to three times. If an attempt fails and you haven't redirected the parcel, the courier leaves a notice and comes back; if that fails too, the parcel is put into storage: you can collect it at the Main Post Office or call customer support to arrange another option. The sender sets how long it's stored.

Post office or Customer Centre. You get an SMS or a written notice naming the office. Bring an identity document; a driver's licence works for items worth up to €150. Someone else can collect with your authorisation and their passport or ID card. For registered or insured items, a second notice comes after 5 days, and the item goes back to the sender if not collected within 30 days of the first.

Redirecting. If the sender gave your phone number, or you signed up for digital notifications, the SMS has a link to send the item to a parcel locker, a Customer Service Location or another address. The redirection page lists a parcel locker as free, a Customer Service Location at €1.89 and a courier to an address at €4.99, VAT included. You can't redirect an item already in a locker or one under customs control.

Latvijas Pasts parcel lost, damaged or not arriving

A claim for a lost or damaged locker parcel must come from the sender, so if you bought online, write to the shop. Latvijas Pasts reviews claims within one month.

When a courier brings a registered or insured item, check the contents in front of the courier so a report can be signed. If you open it alone and find damage, take photos and contact the sender for a replacement or refund; Latvijas Pasts says compensation then isn't its responsibility.

For an item sent abroad that hasn't arrived, the sender can ask for an international search: it's free once 30 days have passed since posting.

Tracking Latvijas Pasts with Peek

For a postal number ending LV with a valid check digit, Peek asks Latvijas Pasts and Chronopost at once and shows "Latvijas Pasts has this parcel." when it knows the number, or "Not found at … yet. Peek will keep checking after you add it." With a wrong check digit Latvijas Pasts isn't asked: check the number, or pick the carrier with "Change". A mans.pasts.lv/track link always names Latvijas Pasts. Searching the picker for "Latvian Post" finds it too.

An item from abroad stays with its foreign post in Peek, but Latvijas Pasts's lookup takes it: pick "Latvijas Pasts" with "Change".

Latvijas Pasts's times carry no time zone, so Peek never shows Latvijas Pasts's own history. It takes a dated history from universal tracking services when one knows the item and asks Latvijas Pasts again every 6 hours; if no service answers, it shows the current status, dated when Peek saw it. Statuses keep Latvijas Pasts's English wording, Item delivered included. Peek can show the post office where an item waits and can notify you when the status changes. It gives no expected arrival day and no weight.

Questions about Latvian Post tracking

What is Latvijas Pasts?

It's Latvia's state-owned national post, offering postal, logistics and financial services in Latvia and abroad. Its website is pasts.lv.

Is Unisend Latvijas Pasts?

No. Unisend is the parcel brand of Lietuvos paštas, the Lithuanian post. The two run a joint parcel locker network, so Latvijas Pasts customers can send to Unisend lockers in Lithuania and Estonia.

Can I track an international Latvijas Pasts item?

Yes, if it was sent with tracking. mans.pasts.lv/track also shows the scans it gets from the post abroad, with the country instead of an office. Once the item is abroad the destination country's post delivers it; the tracker's "International Tracking" button leads to a third-party site.

Does ordinary post from Latvia have a tracking number?

Not always. Simple and Economy items aren't registered, so they can't be tracked; registered, traceable, parcel and EMS items can.
