ELTA Hellenic Post tracking: statuses, pickup, contacts

7 min read

Peek is an independent tracker, not ELTA Hellenic Post. It shows what ELTA Hellenic Post’s own tracking publishes.

ELTA Hellenic Post (ΕΛΤΑ) is Greece's national post, and ELTA Courier is now part of it. Track an item on ELTA's English tracking page, which takes up to five numbers at once, or paste the number in the box above. The number comes from the sender: the receipt of posting, the courier voucher or the shop's message.

ELTA tracking number

ELTA's tracking numbers have 13 characters: two Latin letters, nine digits and two Latin letters. Items posted in Greece end in GR. ELTA Courier numbers mostly use the same layout, printed at the top right of the courier voucher.

Shape (invented)What it is
RR123456785GRA postal item from Greece. Spaces and lower case don't matter (RR 123 456 785 GR).
123456789012Some items from Germany carry a 12-digit barcode instead, which ELTA's tracker also accepts.
RR123456785CNAn item from abroad keeps the foreign post's number, ending in the country it came from.

Lookalikes: a number ending CY belongs to Cyprus Post. A plain 10-digit voucher is not ELTA's: it is the shape ACS Courier and Geniki Taxydromiki use.

What ELTA tracking statuses mean

ELTA's tracker shows every scan in Greek or English (a language switch), with a date, a time and the station: the post office or courier agency. Here are the English wordings, roughly in the order a parcel meets them.

ELTA's statusWhat it means for you
Shipment in transitSent on from the station the scan names.
Arrival inArrived at the post office or courier agency named after these words.
With Courier for deliveryOut for delivery to your address.
Notification of attempted deliveryNobody could take it: a notice was left, with the reason in the next line.
ADDRESSEE NOT AVAILABLE AT TIME OF DELIVERYNobody was home.
ADDRESSEE REQUEST OWN PICK-UPThe attempt ended because you will collect it yourself.
Item at post office - Can be collectedWaiting for you at the post office or agency named.
SMS text message sent for item to be collectedELTA texted you a pickup reminder. Nothing moved.
Shipment deliveredDelivered (seen on courier parcels collected from an agency).
Item deliveredDelivered (seen on parcels collected from a post office).

Arrival in is followed by a gap of spaces and then the station, so it can look cut off. Notification of attempted delivery and its reason arrive at the same minute.

If the tracker answers "No Tracking History", the item has no scans yet or is too old: ELTA keeps a history for six months from the date the item was sent.

Delivery, PostBox lockers and picking up from ELTA

ELTA delivers a domestic parcel to your home, to an ELTA store (you get an SMS or a notice) or to a PostBox locker where your postcode allows it. ELTA's domestic parcel page promises delivery in 3 working days across Greece.

Missed delivery. A parcel from abroad that can't be handed over leaves a notice asking you to collect it at the nearest post office. Items with customs charges are delivered only against a signature. The notice or SMS states how long the item is kept.

ELTA Courier makes two delivery attempts. After the first notice, call your local courier store to schedule delivery; after two notices, collect it there or book a new delivery, which may cost extra. Courier stores open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 20:00 and Saturday 08:00 to 14:00, which may vary by area. An item that can't be delivered goes back to the sender.

PostBox lockers. ELTA's smart lockers are open 24/7 (stations in the Metro and ISAP keep station hours). When your item is placed, a Viber or SMS message gives a 6-digit PIN and the locker's location. Collect within 48 hours; after that it moves to the nearest ELTA store and you get a new message. Items with duties or taxes don't go to a PostBox. You can ask for one with "Θέλω από PostBox" in ELTA's SMS or Viber.

Changing the address. For a courier item only the sender can, in writing to [email protected]. For a fully tracked postal item, the sender can file a change request at a store, in person with ID.

ELTA parcel delayed, lost or damaged

If tracking stops moving for days, see tracking that isn't updating first.

Customs. For parcels from outside the EU, duties are paid only at an ELTA store when you collect. A cleared item waits 20 days at the post office from the notice; bring the notice and ID (ID card, passport or driving licence). If you dispute the charges, don't collect: file a reasoned request at the store with proof of value. More in parcels held at customs.

Lost. The sender or recipient can file a search request at an ELTA store, with ID and the receipt of posting, up to six months after posting. It covers fully tracked items only. ELTA answers by registered letter within 8 weeks (4 weeks for some items abroad).

Damaged courier parcel. Accept it with reservation and declare it within one working day, through the ELTA Courier contact form or at the store. Without that, ELTA bears no liability. The compensation form goes to [email protected] with the voucher, the invoice and photos of the item and packaging. Compensation goes to the sender, or to you if the sender waives it in writing: for an online order, ask the shop.

Complaints. ELTA must answer within 15 days. If you're not satisfied, ask Customer Service in writing to refer it to its Dispute Resolution Committee.

Tracking ELTA parcels with Peek

For a number ending GR with a valid check digit, Peek asks ELTA (and Chronopost) at once and shows "ELTA Hellenic Post has this parcel." when ELTA knows the number, or "Not found at … yet. Peek will keep checking after you add it." With a wrong check digit ELTA isn't asked: check the number, or pick the carrier with "Change". A 12-digit code from Germany, typed, goes to other carriers, never ELTA: use "Change" or paste an ELTA link. Links from elta.gr's tracker and elta-courier.gr's search always name ELTA.

An item from abroad stays with its foreign post, but ELTA's lookup takes it too: pick "ELTA Hellenic Post" with "Change". A parcel can also be followed into ELTA when the carrier abroad names it, though not every parcel is.

ELTA's times carry no time zone, so Peek doesn't list ELTA's own history. It takes a dated history from universal tracking services when one knows the parcel and asks ELTA again every 6 hours; if no service answers, it shows the current status, dated when Peek saw it. Statuses keep ELTA's English wording, and Peek can show the post office or courier agency where the parcel waits, and can notify you when the status changes. There's no expected delivery day and no weight.
