ZTO International tracking: 771 numbers and statuses

8 min read

Peek is an independent tracker, not ZTO International. It shows what ZTO International’s own tracking publishes.

ZTO International (中通国际), which calls itself ZTO Global Logistics in English, is the international arm of the Chinese express company ZTO Express. It carries parcels both ways: from China to Southeast Asia, where it runs its own delivery companies, and from its warehouses abroad into China. Track a parcel on ZTO's mobile tracker or in the box above. The same number usually follows it to the door.

ZTO International tracking number: what it looks like

A ZTO International waybill is 771 and 11 more digits. With invented digits:

NumberWhat it is
77100000000017771 and 11 digits: a ZTO International waybill.
7300000000001714 digits starting with 7, but not 771: not ZTO International. ZTO Express numbers inside China can look like this.

The shape alone doesn't prove it's ZTO International: ZTO Express, DPD and other carriers use 14-digit numbers too. No number? See how to find a tracking number. Got an earlier number for the same parcel? ZTO's tracker finds the waybill under it and shows its 771 number: use that one in Peek.

What ZTO International's tracking statuses mean

Each scan has a Chinese line and, usually, an English one, which Peek shows.

Parcels leaving China. The lines after export customs are those of ZTO's network in Cambodia:

On parcels to Europe, ZTO's tracker copies some of the local carrier's scans: Express shipment / transshipment (In transit: passed on), clearance completed, customs (In transit: your country's customs is done) and Parcel with exceptions (Needs attention: a problem after the delivery round that the line doesn't name).

Some parcels in China show Delivered twice. The first time, ZTO's Chinese line says a parcel station or someone else took it in for you: Peek shows "Received on the recipient's behalf", as Ready for pickup. The second Delivered is the collection, signed with the pickup code the station gave.

ZTO International delivery in Southeast Asia

ZTO says it has its own delivery companies in Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand, and offers local delivery in Laos and Myanmar too: across Cambodia with cash on delivery, in Thailand with cash on delivery and customer service in Chinese and Thai, anywhere in Laos, and door to door with its own vehicles in Myanmar's major cities. Its Southeast Asia and export pages give different delivery times for the same countries, so go by the shop's estimate. ZTO's route notes ask for a full address and a real phone number, not a P.O. box. Missed the courier? See missed deliveries.

Duty. ZTO's notes for senders say local customs collects duty from the recipient above a declared value of USD 30 in Thailand, USD 100 in Malaysia and USD 300 in Singapore. If you refuse to pay, the charge goes to the sender. More in parcels held at customs.

Parcels into China: customs and ID

Cross-border e-commerce orders (customs codes 9610 and 1210) go "up to CNY 5,000 per shipment". Personal items need "the consignee's ID number and front & back image of the ID", with a "tax exemption amount up to CNY 50"; ZTO's site has a page to upload the ID. A third route goes by post through Hong Kong under an EMS number from start to finish, tracked by China Post.

ZTO International parcel late, lost or delivered but not received

No scans. ZTO says parcels are trackable once its warehouse has accepted them, and its tracker shows nothing at all for a number it doesn't know: check the number with the sender. See tracking that isn't updating and tracking a parcel from China.

Lost or damaged. ZTO's claim rules are for the sender: on its exclusive routes, a request within 40 days of shipment, paid up to the declared value, at most USD 30. So ask the shop; see lost parcels.

Delivered but not there. In China, ZTO's Chinese line names the station and who signed, a family member or a parcel station for instance. China's Express Market Administration Measures forbid leaving a parcel in a smart locker or parcel station without your consent, and let you appeal to the postal authorities if a complaint isn't settled to your satisfaction or in time. See delivered but not received.

Track a ZTO International parcel with Peek

Paste the number in Peek: it follows more than 3,500 carriers. It puts ZTO International first among the carriers whose numbers look the same, and shows "ZTO International has this parcel." when ZTO knows the number. If none does, it asks tracking services, and may show "Not found by tracking services yet. Peek will keep checking after you add it." A ZTO Express parcel inside China? Tap "Change" and pick ZTO Express under "Fits this number". An m.ztoglobal.com link with inputNo= names ZTO International too.

Peek reads ZTO International's own tracker; each scan's place comes from ZTO's Chinese line, so it's often in Chinese. ZTO dates every scan on China's clock, even in your country, an hour ahead of Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos; Peek shows each in your device's time zone. It leaves out couriers', scanners' and signers' names, phone numbers, bag numbers and the parcel station, and gives no expected delivery date, weight or proof of delivery. It follows the 771 number to the end, with no second carrier.

Peek checks every 10 minutes from 08:00 to 22:00 Swiss time (about 14:00 to 04:00 in Bangkok, Hanoi and Phnom Penh, an hour later in China), every 2 minutes in those hours once the parcel is out for delivery, and every hour or two the rest of the time, which in Southeast Asia is night and morning. It can notify you of "All tracking updates", "Important only" or "Delivery day only". It can't upload an ID, pay duty, or contact ZTO or the shop for you.

Questions about ZTO International tracking

Is ZTO International legit?

Yes. It was set up in 2014 as the international arm of ZTO Express, which has been listed in New York since 2016 and in Hong Kong since 2020, and it runs its own delivery companies in Southeast Asia.

How long does ZTO International take?

ZTO's own pages don't agree: its Southeast Asia page and its export page give different times for the same countries, and its tracker gives no expected date. Go by the estimate the shop gave you.

What does "Departure from inward office of exchange" mean?

Your parcel left a ZTO station or hub. It's not a customs step: ZTO words every departure in its network this way, and every arrival as Arrival at inward office of exchange.

What is ZTO International's phone number?

95311 in China: ask for international queries after the voice prompt. Other countries' lines are listed above.
