La Poste / Colissimo tracking: numbers and statuses
Colissimo is the parcel service of La Poste, France's national post. Track a parcel on La Poste's English tracking page, Track a letter, Colissimo or Chronopost, or by pasting the number in the box above. The number comes from the sender, usually in the shop's shipping email, or from La Poste by email.
Colissimo tracking number: what it looks like
La Poste's help lists these shapes, to type without spaces and in capitals (examples invented):
| Shape | What it is |
|---|---|
6A12345678905 | 1 digit, 1 letter, 11 digits: Colissimo parcels and tracked letters. |
CK00000000000 | 2 letters and 11 digits. |
LA123456785FR | 2 letters, 9 digits, 2 letters: an international postal number ending FR. |
87000000000000 | 14 digits. |
87000000000000P | 15 characters (15 digits, or 14 digits and a letter): the number of a partner post abroad. |
On a tracked letter, it sits next to the barcode on the stamp; leave out any "SD" printed beside it.
The missed-delivery card (avis de passage) has its own 11-digit number, printed vertically. It works on laposte.fr but isn't the parcel's number.
Postal numbers starting XU, XR, XT, XW, XY or PZ and ending FR belong to Chronopost. Twelve characters suggest Colis Privé. Plain 13- or 14-digit numbers also fit DPD and others, so check the shop's email. Lost the number? See where to find a tracking number.
What Colissimo tracking statuses mean
La Poste's tracking is in French, with an English version. The French lines below, in the order a parcel meets them, are also what Peek shows.
| La Poste's status | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Label created: the shop hasn't handed it over yet. |
| The sender has handed it to La Poste. |
| Moving between sorting centres. |
les formalités import/export sont en cours | In customs (part of a longer sentence). |
| At the local site that delivers your area. |
| Out for delivery today. |
| Not delivered today; it goes out again as soon as possible. |
vous attend dans votre point de retrait | Waiting at the pickup point you chose (part of a longer sentence). |
| After a missed delivery, it waits for you for 15 calendar days. |
| Delivered to your letterbox. |
| Handed to the caretaker or a reception desk. |
The confusing one is Votre colis est sur son site de distribution…. It reads like "still at the depot", and La Poste's English version (Your parcel has arrived at its delivery hub. We are preparing its delivery.) sounds the same. It's the morning sort into the delivery round: delivery, or a failed attempt, follows the same day.
Missed delivery, avis de passage and pickup points
Colissimo goes in your letterbox when it fits; otherwise the postman rings and, if you're out, may hand it to someone in your household, a caretaker or a close neighbour. If not, you get an avis de passage, an email or an SMS.
Then choose, for free, before midnight on the day you got the notice (Sunday midnight for a Saturday notice):
- a new delivery to your address, from the next day up to 6 days after the first attempt;
- or pickup from the next day (except Sundays and public holidays) at the post office or relay shop you pick.
Use La Poste's delivery change tool with the parcel or avis number and your postcode, or scan the avis's QR code. Otherwise a second attempt follows the next day if the avis says so, or the parcel goes to your usual post office.
La Poste keeps a parcel 15 calendar days at a post office, 14 at a relay shop and 5 in a Pickup locker, from the day after the avis, then returns it to the sender. Bring the avis and your original ID; lockers open with a QR code or 6-digit code. Someone else can collect with the filled-in avis, your original ID and theirs.
Colissimo parcel late, lost, damaged or at customs
A delay shows on La Poste's page as La livraison de votre Colissimo est retardée. La Poste sets no number of days for a silent parcel; look for an avis, then contact the sender. See tracking that isn't updating.
Only the sender can be compensated, so ask the sender to claim: within a year of posting within France, six months for international items. Damaged parcel: refuse it at the door or have the postman note it; take one left in your letterbox, unopened, to a post office by the next working day. Damaged contents: contact the sender.
From outside the EU, you pay duties, taxes and La Poste's handling fee: €2 or €5 online with the parcel or avis number, €8 at the door or post office in mainland France. La Poste's customs page notes the EU's flat €3 duty per item since 1 July 2026. More in parcels held at customs.

Tracking Colissimo parcels with Peek
Peek names La Poste / Colissimo at once for 13-character Colissimo numbers with a valid key, 14-digit 870 numbers, 15-character partner numbers and postal numbers ending FR, each with a valid check character. Other codes or a failed key: it asks La Poste alone; 14 digits shared with DPD and others: it asks the likely carriers. The avis number doesn't work; use the parcel's. laposte.fr links with code= or idShip= work; colissimo.fr links only when the number inside is one Peek names at once.
Peek reads La Poste in French, so statuses stay French in every language. It shows each scan on a map with its exact time, the expected delivery, the shop's name, the delivered time and, while the parcel waits, the post office, relay or locker with its address. It drops your name and address. It checks every 10 minutes (every 2 once out for delivery) and can notify you at every scan, at important steps only or on delivery day only.
Chronopost services are followed on Chronopost, a partner La Poste names is followed there, and a postal number bound abroad can be followed to that country's post, such as Royal Mail, once it shows progress. Peek can't change a delivery, answer an avis or pay customs.
Questions about Colissimo tracking
What is Colissimo?
It's La Poste's parcel brand: colissimo.fr leads to laposte.fr, where Colissimo is tracked with letters and Chronopost. It delivers to your door, a post office, relay shop or Pickup locker.
How long does Colissimo take?
La Poste states 2 working days within mainland France and 3 to 15 days abroad, excluding customs.
Does La Poste deliver on Saturday?
Yes: Colissimo delivers to homes six days a week, says La Poste's Colissimo business site. La Poste's consumer pages don't mention Sunday delivery.
Why is La Poste tracking not working?
Type the number without spaces, in capitals, without "SD". For items sent from France, tracking reaches delivery in 45 countries only; elsewhere it stops once the item leaves France. Tracking lasts 12 months.
