GLS Switzerland tracking: statuses, Swiss Post and contact

6 min read

Peek is an independent tracker, not GLS Switzerland. It shows what GLS Switzerland’s own tracking publishes.

GLS is an international parcel network based in Amsterdam with no company of its own in Switzerland: its partner, Swiss Post, clears and delivers the parcels it brings into Switzerland. Track one on GLS's tracking page with the parcel number and your postcode, or paste the number in the box above. The number comes from the sender, so start with the shop's shipping email.

GLS Switzerland parcel number and Track ID

GLS's tracking takes parcel numbers or Track IDs. GLS prints the Track ID on its notification cards, but in Switzerland Swiss Post delivers, and no page shows a GLS card here. Neither GLS nor Swiss Post publishes a number format. The shapes Peek knows as GLS's:

Number (invented)What it is
1111111111111 digits. Also fits GLS Germany, GLS France, PostLogistics and DHL eCommerce Poland.
00000000000912 digits, the last a check digit. Also fits BRT, Mondial Relay, Colis Privé and others.
ABCD12348 letters and digits. Also fits GLS Germany and GLS France.
Six lettersSuch as ABCDEF. Also fits GLS Germany.

Copy the number rather than typing it: a 12-digit number with a wrong last digit, or an 11-digit one missing a digit, no longer matches GLS. If the shop's email names another carrier, the number is theirs. No number at all? See how to find your tracking number.

GLS tracking in Switzerland: what each status means

GLS's tracking for Swiss parcels is in English only, and GLS publishes no Swiss status list. These are the wordings its group tracking uses, in order:

GLS saysWhat it means for you
Preadvice, The parcel has not been handed over to GLS.The sender has created the label data. GLS doesn't have the parcel yet.
The parcel was handed over to GLS.GLS has it.
In transit, The parcel has left the parcel centerMoving between GLS depots.
Customs Consignment via Customs Portal, The parcel has not been released by customs. At customs, which Swiss Post handles for GLS parcels.
The parcel was released by customs.Cleared and moving again.
Final parcel centerAt the last centre: delivery comes next.
In delivery, The parcel is in delivery.Out for delivery, expected during the day.
Not deliveredNot delivered, for example because of a wrong address. GLS then checks the address.
StoredBack at the final parcel centre.
The parcel is ready for collection at the ParcelShop.Waiting at a ParcelShop or locker for you to pick up.
The parcel has been delivered., DeliveredDelivered.

Preadvice only means the shop has sent GLS the label data: if it lasts for days, ask the sender. GLS also writes Delivered for a parcel left at a ParcelShop, which you still have to pick up.

GLS delivery in Switzerland: Swiss Post and collection notes

Who brings it. GLS's partner for Switzerland and Liechtenstein is Swiss Post GLS, a Swiss Post unit in Basel. Swiss Post clears incoming GLS parcels through customs and delivers them, and notes that clearing them can differ from its usual process.

ParcelShops. No GLS page names a GLS ParcelShop or locker in Switzerland.

Missed delivery. GLS publishes nothing for Switzerland on attempts, notification cards or Saturday delivery. If Swiss Post leaves a collection note, these are its rules for its own consignments (no page names GLS parcels):

  • Pick it up with the note or the QR code in the Post-App, usually within seven days, or 15 for international consignments. Extending the deadline is free and needs no account.
  • With a "My consignments" login, book a second delivery, have it forwarded to a My Post 24 terminal, another address or a branch (CHF 8 on weekdays), or let someone else pick it up with a free one-off authorisation.

GLS parcel late, at customs, lost or damaged

The sender chose GLS and, as Swiss Post's GLS pages say, always pays the transport, so the shop is your first contact.

No update. Preadvice means the shop still has the parcel; a customs status means it waits for Swiss Post's clearance. Otherwise see why tracking stops updating.

Customs charges. Who pays depends on the delivery terms (Incoterm) the sender chose: with GLS's Incoterm 20 you pay the clearance fee, duty and VAT, with 30 or 40 they're split and you pay at least the VAT. Swiss Post charges GLS parcels its usual clearance fees. To dispute a bill, call Swiss Post's International Customer Service on +41 848 48 48 47; customs allows 60 days from the tax assessment decision to correct the procedure, address or duty.

Lost or damaged. GLS publishes no claim rule, deadline or compensation limit for Switzerland: contact the shop.

GLS Switzerland contact number and email

GLS has no Swiss hotline of its own. Its contact page points to "the website of your GLS national company", which for Switzerland and Liechtenstein is Swiss Post GLS. As listed on 10 October 2026:

  • Phone: +41 848 48 48 47, Swiss Post GLS's import line, CHF 0.08 per minute from a Swiss landline, Monday to Friday 8 am to noon and 1.30 to 5.30 pm. Swiss Post lists it as "GLS (parcels)" on business and customs pages, not as a tracking line.
  • Email: [email protected] (English), [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected].
  • Post: Swiss Post GLS, Post-Passage 11, 4002 Basel.
  • GLS group: a contact form in English.

Tracking a GLS Switzerland parcel with Peek

Peek takes all four shapes and asks the likely carriers. GLS Germany and GLS Switzerland know the same numbers, so it goes by your country (your iPhone's region, or on the web where you connect from). In Switzerland or Liechtenstein you'll usually see "GLS Switzerland has this parcel"; for a parcel going to Germany, press "Change" and pick GLS Germany. Elsewhere you'll see GLS Germany, which tracks Swiss parcels just as well with the Swiss postcode. A pasted gls-group link with /EU/ or /GROUP/ is tracked as GLS Germany.

GLS shows its scan history only with the delivery postcode, so the "Delivery postcode" field is required: four digits, like 8000. It goes to GLS and, when needed, to tracking services; a wrong one looks like an unknown number.

You then see the status, each scan's town and country on a map, the expected delivery day, the weight and the delivery time, without your name, address, contact details or signature. Statuses keep GLS's English wording; the ParcelShop one shows as ready for pickup. GLS is checked about once an hour, delivery day included, and you can be notified of every scan, important steps or delivery day only.

When GLS names Swiss Post as the deliverer, the parcel page says "Delivery with Swiss Post", and Peek can follow the parcel on Swiss Post's tracking with the same number once Swiss Post shows newer progress.

Questions about GLS Switzerland tracking

What delivery company is GLS?

GLS is General Logistics Systems, headquartered in Amsterdam and part of International Distributions Services, formerly Royal Mail Group. In Switzerland its partner, Swiss Post, handles its parcels.

How long does GLS take to deliver to Switzerland?

GLS gives a figure only from Austria: 2 shipping days as standard. From elsewhere, go by the shop's estimate.

Why is GLS tracking not working?

Check the postcode first: GLS shows no scan history until you enter the delivery postcode. Also check for a wrong or missing digit; old gls-group.com/CH/ addresses lead to an error page.

Is GLS legit?

Yes, but fake messages use its name: see the warning above.
