DPD UK tracking: statuses, Pickup shops and contact

7 min read

Peek is an independent tracker, not DPD UK. It shows what DPD UK’s own tracking publishes.

DPD UK is a British parcel company that delivers for many online shops. Track a parcel on DPD's tracking page with the parcel number and your postcode, or paste the number in the box above. The number comes from the shop, from DPD's SMS or email, or from the "sorry we missed you" card.

Where is my DPD tracking number?

The shop that sent the parcel has the number. You can also tap the link in DPD's email or SMS. If the driver left a "sorry we missed you" card, the number is beside the barcode, and DPD's tracking page accepts the calling card number too. Lost it? See how to find your tracking number.

DPD's own pages don't describe the number's format. The parcel numbers seen on DPD UK's tracking have 14 digits, and many start 1550; DPD's page may print a check character after them.

Number (invented)What it is
15501234567890A DPD UK parcel number: 14 digits starting 1550.
15501234567890QThe same number with DPD's check character on the end.
12345678901234Any other 14 digits: could be DPD UK, another DPD country or another carrier.

Other DPD countries also use 14 digits, and so do DHL eCommerce UK, SEUR and BRT, so the digits alone don't prove who has your parcel. DPD's messages do: its SMS now comes from "DPD UK" (or "DPD Local" or "DPDgroup UK"), with the shop's name in the text. DPD Local is DPD's sister brand. In Ireland, parcels go with DPD Ireland, which has its own numbers.

DPD tracking statuses explained

DPD UK's tracking is in English only. These are the lines most parcels show, in order:

DPD delivery options, Pickup shops and missed deliveries

Predict. DPD sends a one-hour delivery window by SMS and email. It arrives on the day once the driver has loaded the van, usually by 12 noon. A live map then narrows it to a 15-minute slot. You can't change the slot itself.

Changing the delivery. The night before and on the day, the SMS, email or DPD app lets you pick another day, a neighbour, a safe place or a DPD Pickup Shop, or upgrade to an earlier, afternoon or weekend delivery. If the sender asked for a signature, some of these options aren't offered. To send it to a different address, contact the shop.

Not in. DPD automatically tries a neighbour. Its terms define one as someone living or working within 50 metres' walk. You can name a preferred neighbour or a safe place in advance. Otherwise the driver leaves a card, and you can choose a new date, a safe place, a neighbour or a Pickup Shop with your reference number and postcode. DPD's pages don't say how many attempts it makes. Tracking says delivered but you can't find it? See delivered but not received.

Pickup shops. DPD has more than 6,000 Pickup shops, including Sainsbury's, Post Office, Co-op, Morrisons, Argos and Matalan branches. A parcel you redirect there is usually ready the next day. Bring two pieces of ID: photo ID and something with your address, such as a utility bill. DPD's tracking page shows the date by which you must pick it up; DPD doesn't publish a set number of days. The DPD app also offers delivery to a locker.

DPD parcel not delivered, delayed or damaged

Delays. DPD's delivery times are estimates. When there's a delay in your area, the tracking page can show it with a new estimated date, and DPD's Service Disruption page checks your postcode. If nothing moves for days, read why tracking stops updating and ask the shop.

Lost or damaged. The shop holds the contract with DPD, so it makes the claim. Under DPD's terms the sender must report loss or damage within 14 days of despatch and claim within a year. Keep the packaging and take photos. For a lost parcel, DPD may ask you to sign a letter confirming it never arrived.

Not delivered. DPD may return a parcel it can't deliver after at least 5 calendar days.

Import charges. Parcels from outside the UK can carry VAT or duty, billed by the delivery company. GOV.UK says that company normally holds the parcel for about 3 weeks, then returns it to the sender if unpaid.

Tracking DPD UK parcels with Peek

Peek recognises a 14-digit DPD number, but the shape is shared and Peek can't ask DPD UK whether it knows a number. So you'll usually press "Change" and pick "DPD UK", unless a tracking service names DPD UK first. A track.dpd.co.uk or tracking.dpd.co.uk link with reference= or parcelNumber= names DPD UK straight away. Order and collection references that need a postcode aren't tracked.

DPD UK's scans carry no time zone, so Peek doesn't show DPD's own scan list. It takes the dated history from universal tracking services, asks DPD UK again every 6 hours and, if no service answers, shows DPD's current status, dated when Peek saw it. Statuses keep DPD's English wording, and a cancelled delivery shows as a problem. Peek can notify you when the status changes.

DPD gives no place for its scans, and Peek doesn't read DPD's expected day or Predict window. It drops your details, references and delivery photos. DPD reuses numbers after some months, so an old number can show a newer parcel.

Questions about DPD UK tracking

Is DPD part of Royal Mail?

No. DPD UK is run by DPDgroup UK Ltd and belongs to Geopost, which is part of the French La Poste group.

How long does DPD take to deliver in the UK?

It depends on the service the shop chose. DPD Next Day aims for the next working day; the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Scilly take two days as standard.

Where is my DPD driver?

On the delivery day, DPD's Predict SMS or email gives the driver's name and your place in their queue, and a live map follows the delivery.

How long does DPD hold parcels at a Pickup shop?

DPD UK doesn't publish a set period. The tracking page shows the date by which you must pick the parcel up.
