Tracking Depop, Mercari, Poshmark and Marketplace orders
On Depop, Mercari, Poshmark, Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace, a shipped order is an ordinary parcel: the app gives the seller a prepaid label or a QR code for a national carrier, and that carrier's tracking number is what you follow. Pay and ship inside the app: that keeps the tracking in your order and your money held until the parcel arrives. Vinted and eBay have their own guides: Vinted orders and eBay orders.
How does shipping work on Depop, Mercari and Poshmark?
You pay at checkout, and the app holds the money. It then emails the seller a prepaid label, often with a QR code instead of a printout: Depop's works at Evri drop-off points in the UK and at USPS in the US, Poshmark's at any USPS location. The seller drops the parcel off or books a pickup, and the carrier's first scan starts your tracking. With the app's label, the app sees the tracking itself: the seller types nothing in.
- SellerPacks it and gets a prepaid label or a QR code
- Drop-offPost office, parcel shop or mailbox: the first scan
- CarrierUSPS, Evri, Canada Post, Australia Post and others
- Your doorOr a locker or pickup point, depending on the carrier
- YouCheck it, then confirm or report a problem in time
A seller can also ship "their own way" on Depop and Mercari, with a label bought elsewhere. Then the tracking appears only once they add the number to the order, and Mercari's shipping protection no longer covers the parcel.
Which carrier delivers it?
The one behind the app's label, so it depends on the app and the country:
| App | Country | Carrier with the app's label |
|---|---|---|
| Depop | UK | Evri |
| Depop | US | USPS |
| Depop | Australia | Australia Post, being rolled out |
| Mercari | US | USPS, UPS or FedEx |
| Poshmark | US | USPS |
| Poshmark | Canada | Canada Post |
| Facebook Marketplace | Continental US | USPS or UPS |
| Gumtree | UK | Evri |
| Gumtree | Australia | The seller's pick from an approved list: Australia Post, DHL and more |
Mercari labels don't reach APO or FPO addresses. Gumtree's UK delivery is for items up to £250 in a few categories, such as clothing.
A few gaps:
- Facebook Marketplace ships only within the continental US. Elsewhere, Facebook says shipping and Purchase Protection aren't available: you arrange a local pickup, with no tracking.
- Poshmark closed its Australian marketplace. It runs in the US and Canada.
- Ireland has no app label from these apps. Depop sellers outside the UK and US post with any tracked service they like, and Depop Protection covers buyers in the UK, US and Australia only.
Where is the tracking number, and what does it look like?
In the order, in the app:
- Depop: Purchases, then your order. Tap the tracking number (iPhone) or Where is my package? (Android and web) to open the carrier's page.
- Mercari: the order's Order Status page, with the estimated delivery date.
- Gumtree: My orders in the UK; View full tracking history in the chat in Australia.
- Facebook Marketplace: your order, and Facebook sends notifications as it moves.
The QR code (or Gumtree's 6-digit PIN) the seller shows at drop-off isn't a tracking number, and nor is a pickup code. The tracking number is the carrier's own, so it works on the carrier's site too. The shapes Peek knows:
| Carrier | The number looks like |
|---|---|
| Evri | H or T, 5 letters or digits, then 10 digits; or 16 digits |
| USPS | 22 digits starting 91 to 95 |
| UPS | 1Z + 16 letters and digits |
| FedEx | 12 or 15 digits, or 96 + 20 digits |
| Canada Post | 16 digits, or 2 letters, 9 digits, CA |
| Australia Post | 21 or 23 characters with 000 before the last 6 digits |

How long does the seller have to send it?
Each app sets its own limit, and most sellers ship well inside it:
| App | Deadline | What happens after |
|---|---|---|
| Depop (US) | 10 days from the purchase | Cancelled automatically, full refund |
| Depop (UK, Australia) | No fixed day: after 5 days, raise an issue in the app | The seller has 48 hours to show proof of shipping or refund you, or you're refunded automatically |
| Mercari | Asked to ship within 3 business days | You can request a cancellation until the seller confirms shipping; they have 24 hours to answer |
| Poshmark | 7 days | You can cancel: Problems/Order Inquiry → Order is Delayed. Poshmark can cancel by the 14th day |
| Facebook Marketplace | 7 calendar days to get it to the carrier | Meta may cancel the order |
| Gumtree (UK) | 7 days; the label expires after 7 calendar days | The seller needs a new label |
| Gumtree (Australia) | 3 days from payment to add tracking | The order may be cancelled and you're refunded |
Why isn't the tracking moving?
Usually one of these:
- The label exists, the parcel doesn't yet. The app creates the label the moment you pay. Until the seller drops it off, the carrier has nothing to scan. Depop calls this "pre-shipment": message the seller.
- The seller confirmed shipping without a number. On Mercari, wait until 15 days after the purchase; if nothing has come by then, request a refund from the Order Status page.
- A short USPS hold. On Mercari labels, you may see "Delayed for postage assessment, held awaiting payment". The parcel keeps moving, but the tracking can stay quiet for 1 or 2 days.
- It's really stuck. Gumtree (UK) asks you to contact it after more than 5 days without an update, and refunds you if the parcel can't be found after 15 days with no movement. On Mercari, after 30 days with no update since the last scan, you can cancel the order and get your money back.
More on quiet spells: why tracking stops updating.
How long will the pickup point keep it?
The carrier decides, not the app. Most of these parcels come to your door. A parcel waiting at a post office or a parcel shop follows that carrier's holding time, and then goes back to the seller. On Depop's UK label, Evri treats a parcel as undeliverable after three failed delivery attempts and returns it to the seller. Mercari can't reroute a parcel once it's shipped, so check your address before you pay.
How long each carrier holds a parcel: uncollected parcels. What happens next: returned to sender.
When does the seller get paid, and how long do I have to report a problem?
The app holds your money until delivery, then gives you a short window:
- You payThe app holds the money, not the seller.
- The seller sends itWith the app's label, before the deadline above.
- It arrivesAt your door, or it waits at a pickup point.
- You confirm or reportOpen it at once: some windows are only 2 or 3 days long.
- The seller is paidWhen you confirm, or when your window closes.
| App | Report a problem within | Then the seller is paid |
|---|---|---|
| Depop | 30 days from the purchase | UK, US, with Depop's label: 2 business days after delivery or 10 after the sale, whichever comes first. Australia: 10 working days after the sale |
| Mercari | 72 hours after delivery | When you rate the order, or after the 72 hours |
| Poshmark | 72 hours after delivery | When you accept the order, or after 3 days |
| Facebook Marketplace | Contact the seller within 3 days of delivery; claim within 7 days | 5 days after delivery is confirmed, or 15 to 20 days after shipping |
| Gumtree (UK) | 2 days after delivery | When you confirm, or after 48 hours |
| Gumtree (Australia) | 3 days after delivery | When you press Release funds, or after 3 days |
Tracking says delivered, but you have nothing? Report it inside the same window. Depop can't guarantee a refund when the tracking shows delivery to your address, so ask your neighbours first. More in delivered but not received, damaged parcels and lost parcels.
What if you paid or shipped outside the app?
Then the app can't help. Each one says it plainly:
- Depop: no protection if you pay by PayPal, Venmo or bank transfer outside Depop, or meet in person. Paid with PayPal? Open a dispute in PayPal's Resolution Center.
- Poshmark: trades and deals finished off Poshmark aren't covered.
- Facebook Marketplace: local pickup, Messenger payments and PayPal or Venmo transfers aren't covered by Purchase Protection.
- Gumtree (Australia): direct PayPal, PayID or bank transfer isn't covered, and neither is a "Pickup" order the seller then posts.
You'll only have tracking if the seller sends you the number. Watch out for messages that move you to WhatsApp or text and offer "Gumtree delivery" or a courier with a payment link: Gumtree Australia says it never arranges payment or delivery outside its platform. More in fake delivery texts.
Can I track it outside the app?
Yes. Copy the carrier's number from the order and paste it into Peek. It recognises the carriers above from the number. When a shape is shared, such as 16 digits, Peek asks the carriers that use it and shows which one has the parcel; if several do, you pick the one the app names, and Change carrier on the parcel fixes it later. Confirming delivery, opening a claim and getting a refund stay in the app.
